This history has been prepared by John Dulley. The information comes from a very wide range of sources.

  • The main genealogical information comes from the huge databases of ancestry.com; myheritage.com; and wikitree.com plus research and stories by users of these sites.
  • Old newspaper articles, advertisements and vitals notices.
  • Immigration and travel Passenger lists, and Find a Grave obituaries provided interesting and useful information.
  • Some family members have special biographies in “The Australian Dictionary of Biography”
  • The online encyclopedia, wiki.com has articles about some family members and information about their lives.
  • Google and trove.com (National Library of Australia) searches provided a wide range of information and images.
  • Nellie's Journal, Stories of Yesteryears. Private publication.

The information in this history has been collected from so many sources that individual source acknowledgement is impossible. It may contain mistakes or data that is questionable or unproved to a surety level that some researchers may desire. When there is some uncertainty words like "it appears", and "it has been suggested" are used. 

This history will be updated as new information becomes available.

Family sources 

Special thanks are given to the following members of the Mosman and Farquarson families who provided unique insights into their family history:

  • Debbie Higginson, direct descendant of twin George Mosman and President of the Mosman Historical Society. Debbie also provided copies two self published books about the Mosman family. 
  • Rod Horton, direct descendant of Andrew Farquharson, father of Charlotte and Uncle of Harriet, and President of the Central Coast History Society.  He is the author of “Charlotte’s Story “ about the parentage of the three youngest children of Archibald and Harriet. 
  • Marilyn Roberts, another direct descendant of Andrew Farquharson, provided information about the latter years of Charlotte Farquharson’s life. 
  • Arthur Palmer, a direct descendant of Sir Arthur Palmer and Lady Cecilia Palmer/née Mosman, shared his encyclopedic knowledge of the early Mosman family. 
  • Wendy Corbett Kelly, a descendant of John Corbett, a convict who worked for both Archibald and George Mosman, provided detailed CV’s of over 50 convicts who worked for both Archibald and George which she prepared for her book “Counting Sheep-Corbett Style” about her family. 

Images 

To bring the history to life, images have been included of people and places. 

The main source of Mosman family images is the impressive Local Studies Collection at the Barry O’Keefe Library of the Mosman Library. We thank them for giving permission to use their images. The source of these images is acknowledged briefly as (c. Mosman Library).

Images that are known to be out of copyright (mainly due to age) or in the Public Domain are acknowledged as such.


Other images on this site are considered to be covered by fair use copyright provisions. The site meets these provisions which require the site to be not commercial, a research project, and the images should only make up a small part of the document and will only be seen by a small interested audience.
