Chapter a3
About the Author
John Dulley was born in 1939 in Uxbridge about 25km north west of London. After high school at Harrow Grammar he graduated with honours in Economics from Bristol University. In 1961 he was recruited by ABS in Canberra and sailed to Australia on his honeymoon.
During his time with ABS he became a Senior Executive and had a two year term as head of ABS Sydney office. He lived in Balmoral Beach, Mosman and frequently commuted to work by ferry from Mosman Bay, not realising the historical background to the beautiful area.
In the 1980’s he moved to Sydney and worked for the NSW public service. During his lunchtimes he grew to love the peace and serenity inside the Francis Greenway designed St James church near Hyde Park (convict) Barracks, also designed by convict Greenway.

As well during his lunchtimes he started his long time interest in genealogy researching records at the Society of Australian Genealogists house in Kent Street near the Harbour Bridge.

When he retired John and his family moved to the Sunshine Coast which had always been a family favourite. In retirement John became a top Amazon book reviewer and and a part time small business website developer.
John then returned to the world of genealogy impressed with the search power of online databases and historical information. His Dulley Family Tree now has more than 4,000 family members from the UK, Canada and notably Australia. He has also built family trees for neighbours in his retirement village who have interesting convict backgrounds.
