Chapter 9.6

Lavinia Ann Mosman 1863-1901

Lavinia Ann Mosman was born at Burrowel in 1863, the second youngest daughter of George and Jane Mosman. Another child called Lavinia had unfortunately died three years earlier at two years of age. In those days it was common practice to name the next child after the one who had died.

In 1888 when she was 24 she married John Wilson Boag, age 30. Before he married John spent some time as a teacher at East Maitland before settling down as a dairy farmer at Burnbrae which was part of Burrowel which was sold off after George Mosman died.

They had three sons and four daughters. Sadly Lavinia died at age 37 in the influenza/pneumonia epidemic in the area in 1901 which also took the lives of her nieces Cissy and Ruby Fisher at nearby Brandon.

John Broag remarried Clara Miriam Holmes two years later and had three more children. He outlived Clara and died in 1936 at 88. In his obituary he is quoted as admiring the hard work, labour and thrift of the pioneers who came before him.
