Convicts
Between 1788 and 1868 more than 162,000 convicts were transported to Australia. Of these, about 7,000 arrived in 1833 alone. The convicts were transported as punishment for crimes committed in Britain and Ireland

In the early 1800s most convicts were assigned to either construction work or to help free settlers develop their properties.

This history looks at the background of convicts who came to Australia and tells some stories of individual convicts who worked for either Archibald or George Mosman.
