Evelyn Jardine/Lady Cameron 1888-1960
Evelyn, granddaughter of Archibald Mosman, married Donald Charles Cameron, one of Australia’s military heroes in 1914. She became Lady Evelyn Cameron when he was knighted in 1932. They had one child.
Sir Donald Charles Cameron (1879-1960)
Donald was a military man from an early age. When he was 20 he was attached to an American regiment which was sent to Peking at the time of the Boxer Rebellion. He volunteered for the Boer War and was mentioned in dispatches.His military career included the Boer War (mentioned in dispatches), a Captain at Gallipoli (wounded twice, once seriously), and service in Palestine and the Sinai. At the end of WW1 he was a Lieutenant Colonel, DSO, CMG.
After a parliamentary career as a National MP and a record of assistance to ex-servicemen, in 1932 he was made Sir Donald Cameron KCMG.
Evelyn was a great traveller. Before her marriage she visited her aunt, Lady McIlraith, in London, also during Donald’s absence during the war. During one of these visits, she was presented to the King.
She also travelled widely with her husband. Their honeymoon took them to China and Japan. After the war they travelled to England via New Zealand and the Panama Canal.
